Carolk9s Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Just for fun I stopped by the animal communicators tent yesterday with Candy. We were out supporting the Richmond Animal League and participated in the agility demo. I have always been curious about animal communicators and decided what the heck, at least the fee was going to RAL so it was a good cause. I am a bit curious if anyone has taken their dog to a communicator and how you feel about the encounter. About 98% of what was said seemed very general to me. Anyone with any knowledge of dogs could have come up with the things she said. The only thing she said that struck a chord was when she said Candy had a horrible puppyhood and was abandoned. My sister and I did find Candy out in the country alongside a back road and feel strongly that she was dumped in the area. Candy was emaciated and fearful, she had to learn over time that I was NOT going to smack or beat her. My question is how did your dog relate to the communicator? Candy is a VERY sociable girl and has gone up to every human she's gotten close too and wanted to be petted and to kiss them. She not only pointedly ignored this woman, she refused to look at her and wanted to leave. I can certainly explain this to a degree that there were other dogs nearby and other activity taking place but her avoidance of this person was total. We had already been on site for close to 5 hours so she'd had time to visit other dogs and walk around some. We were with the communicator for about 15 minutes and not once did I see her look at the woman, if I tried to bring Candy closer, she resisted and moved away immediately. Just weird but not a big deal but I wonder if other dogs have had similar reactions and do you think it 'means' anything? Quote
abker17 Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Hmm, I've never heard of an animal communicator, other than the Pet Physic(sp?) (BTW, is that show even on anymore?) Is a communicator like that? I'm curious to hear some other people's experiences with this........ Quote
Sanvean Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 My former roommate took her horse to an "animal psychic" once. She seemed to think that it was helpful...apparently, her horse "said" that his feet were cold! Quote
Aonir Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I dunno... Humans have trouble reading each others language("You did WHAT!?" .. "No no! thats not what I meant.."), how can we understand an animals("You want your ears scratched..?" .. "You darn human, I'm hungry!")? lol Quote
Carolk9s Posted October 13, 2003 Author Posted October 13, 2003 Well, I'm still very skeptical about this There have been a couple people say that her avoidance of the woman, since it is out of character for Candy, is an indication of 'something'. One said it would have gone better if I had explained to Candy beforehand what we were going to do and that it was ok to talk to the woman. Another said perhaps Candy felt the mental intrusion was rude or invasive. I'm thinking Candy was trying to tell ME to save my money for doggie treats! 8) Quote

THIS person appears to be a fraud....I am a BIG believer in letting the dogs decide who is good and who isnt...If it's a stable dog, who generally likes people and gets along with them, not a problem with strangers, happy-go-lucky, who SUDDENLY avoids/ignores/snarls at someone, MY take is that that SOMEONE is bad news...and should be avoided. They sense so MANY things we dont....I rely on mine to tell me good people from bad.... Quote
