I thought since some of us (me) don't know everyone's dogs name(s) that we could let everyone (me) know. But not just that, I thought it would be fun to know why you named your dog(s) that? And what nicknames do you call your dog(s)...

Brooklyn-Because I just really liked that name really. And it stuck.

Brooklyn's nicknames: The Fug (it even says it on his name tag!!), Fugly, Fug in the Mug, Brookie tha Cookie (because when I got him I had just made 34 oatmeal cookies and had left them on the counter to cool. I went outside to take out the trash and he ate every last one is less then 4 mins!..he was only 3 months old!), Brookie, Butthead, Wigglebum

Jaeden- I named her that because she had green eyes at the time and I didn't want to just call her "Jade" because it seemed plain to me. So it evolved into Jaeden.

Jaeden's Nicknames: Sugarbum, Wigglebum, Princess Precious, Baby girl, Jaeden Bin Laden the Pit bull Terrierist (when she's bad..I know I know it's an awful nickname!), Crazy girl, Jae Jae, Jae and monkey face/butt/head! LOL

Tydo- I didn't name him and I havent thought of a better name yet!

Tydo's nicknames- Tydo The Guido, Teed, Tydo Guido and jackass!

Posted

I'm glad you posted Tydo the Guido....I had been pronouncing it "Tiedoh"

 @ me!!

1. Freebee - named so because the lady I got her from wanted to sell
her as a "purebred German Shepherd" (with FLOPPY ears???)
and once I set her straight she gave her to me for free....

2. Laurel - had that name when I got her. It's pretty, so I'm going to leave it.

3. PushyCat - the description and reason is in his name. He is arrogant,
ill-tempered, your basic bratnick.....

I call them Free, Freebers, Fruitbat, Fruit...
Laurel, Laur and Silly Girl...
and as for PushyCat....

DAMN CAT.....or woose, or just Pushy....

No no  at me! I always try to find weird spellings for names for my pets...Like Jaeden instead of Jayden.

PushyCat!...That's a great name!

And I was hoping you would reply because I was wondering why your dog was named Freebee..I thought maybe because she was free! 8)

Posted

This would be why he is SO arrogant, so full of himself, and the dgs obey him without question most of the time....18 lbs. of ill-temper....I love him though.....

Cracker's nicknames: Puffhead

OHHHH BEAN! I call my dogs that too! Thanks for reminding me!

Most of my dogs' names have no special significance. They just "happened" and sounded good to me. If I can spit it out easily and they answer to it, it's a winner.

Let's see.... Tucker, my Lab. His name is actually Tucker Dedicated. It just sounded good because, at the time, I was running a route out of Tucker, GA (Atlanta area) and the route was called a Tucker dedicated route.

Penny, the Pit(ish) Bull. She was in horrid shape when I first saw her and she had to be bathed, rebathed and soaked again to be fit to be around. When clean, we said she "shined up like a new Penny."

Peanut, the Toy Poodle. Probably more than you want to know, but when she was a tiny puppy, her poop looked like peanuts. Sorry for the visual. :-?

Missy, the female Lhasa Apso. Her name is actually Misdemeanor because she really does have a rotten disposition sometimes, but Missy is easier to spit out.

Fred, the male Lhasa Apso. Named after Fred Flintstone. I don't know; ask my husband. It was his idea.

Simon, the Schnauzer. He just looked like a Simon.

Chico, the Chihuahua. He just looked like a Chico.

Perry (formerly Perry-NO), my first Standard Poodle. No clue what to name him until my kid sister saw him for the first time and just said, "Hi, Perry!" Worked for me.

Pauly-NO, my latest Standard Poodle. He's just goofy enough to look like a Pauly (the NO part is self explanatory) and I did want another P name to go with Perry and Peanut (this gang travels with me EVERYWHERE and I can collectively call them P3 and they listen).

The cats? Buddy's name is actually Butthead, but Buddy sounds better in polite company.

Li'l Bit because she was so tiny.... until she was spayed. Now she's Big 'Un? :-?

Half Pint, littermate of Li'l Bit... she's still a teeny tiny cat.

TomCat or Tiger, as he was named by his previous owners. We never call him Tiger, but never named him otherwise, so we just call him TomCat.

Snowball, black as smut. Seriously. Another example of my husband's sense of humor (ha? :o ).

Your welcome.... LOL I thought I was the only one who called thier dogs that, but I love the name, LOL it suits her.......

Honey got her name because she looked like a "Honey"....just something about her eyes.

Licorice (or Licky) got her name from a co-worker I knew.....I showed her the pic of Licky and she said..."awww, look at that little piece of Licorice!" So it kind of stuck!

Our cat was named Mee Mee when we got her from the SPCA and we loved the name.

Honey's nicknames are: princess buttercup peanut head, peanut head, mommie's lil' piglet.

Licky's nicknames are: booger-butt, licky dog, stinky butt.....

Mee Mee's nicknames are: crack kitty, "don't claw me!", crazy kitty....

oh, this is politically incorrect, but I cant think of "Bean" without thinking of my son's best friend, Francisco.....He's Mexican, and everyone always complains that his name is too long, and he hates the name Frank or Cisco....So one day he just decided that everyone would call him Bean
from now on.....

I was surprised at that, but he thinks its hilarious, so Bean it is....
No no at me! I always try to find weird spellings for names for my pets...Like Jaeden instead of Jayden.
OK I can understand thaqt completely....I lke Jaeden, by the way, better than Jayden....

My dogs have been named various different (and odd) things from the beginning of my having dogs....

1. Taurus - my first dog. Golden Retriever. No one in my family could agree on a name, and he was born in May, so I suggested Taurus and
everyone agreed to it.

2. Rasilon - from Dr. Who - usually called Razzy...he was a rescue with
temperamnet problems, so I named him after a "bad guy" in the
Sci-Fi show....he was an Irish Wolfhound mix...

3. Luigi - also a rescue - he came with that name and I just loved it -
he was a Tibetan Mastiff, and him and my sister got me ended up in court....

4. Jarvis - a BC Malamute mix (yes, odd combination to be sure!!) - He was black and white, and the layout of the fur made him look like a butler, hence the name.

and now Freebee and Laurel, already explained. I also had a cat named
Isis....completely black with amber eyes, the perfect Halloween cat,
so I named him after a Goddess, because when I got him I was told he was a female....then found out he was a male...oh well. Change his formal name to Isocoles (like the triangle) so I could still call him Isis. I'm SURE I am spelling Isocoles wrong....

What a great post! :D

Okay, here we go...

Coal

nic-names: Coaly Moley (thanks to Lannie!), Coaly Moleyson, Mr. Funny Ears, Brat, EVIL, Sucky Boy, Mamma's Boy, Lost Cause, basiclly any weird word that comes outa my mouth first.
Reason for name: He was originally guna be named either Pickles or Akila, but my mom didn't like those names (even though he was supose to be my dog :x ) So we were thinking of all the possiblilties on the way to get him, and mom wanted a name that was "numerologicly good" Coal is my fave name (although I like it spelled Cole, but Coal was numerologicly better). Then when we got there, his name was Cole! But Coal also suited better because he's black as coal

Daiquiri

Nic-names: Dak, Dakaroo, Head Moffia Kitty, Martie, Dakareenie, Dak Wack, Witty Kitty, Silly Boo, Frozen Daiquiri, Strawberry Daiquiri, Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri (she is only usually a frozen Daiquiri in the winter  ), Ugly Duckling, Monkey (the last two I named her before we even got her... she was my friend's cat's kitten)
Reason For Name: She was actually origionally guna be called "Martini". But I love Daiquiris so it was Daiquiri.(vergin ones, LOL I HATE Alchohol... which some of you know why :-? )

Taz (her actual full name is Tazmanian Devil Angel)

Nic-names: Tazzy, Spaz, Tazzy Wazzy, Meraz, Taz Spaz Meraz, Fat Cat
Reason for name: We were young and Taz is the coolest cartoon ever.

Angel

Nic-names: Shmitten, Smartie, Angel-Boo (my sister has a million nicnames for her cuz she's her cat)
Reason for name: Anna named her after her fave cat: Taz... since Taz's "Middle name" is Angel.

Pokey
sorry, have no picture of her and she's currently MIA :-?
Nic-names: Polkaroo (like on the Polka-Dot-Door   That started when I was really little), Pocky, Bitch, Mom's Cat
Reason for Name: Her name was Kisses, cuz she gave kisses all the time. But then we discovered that when you whistle she'll poke you in the face. We were guna name Taz "Gumby" because we got Pokey then Taz, and everyone knows Gumby can't be without his trusty stead Pokey!! But then we decided that was too corny

Anyone give their animals middle names?? We always have! It's usually the nic-name we give them the most. Obviously, Hazel's was "Meg" (Hazel Nut Meg)
Daiquiri's is Dakaroo (Daiquiri Dakaroo Slorstad  now say THAT Ten times fast! )
Coal's is Moley (Coaly Moley Slorstad)
Taz's is Angel (Tazmanian Devil Angel Slorstad)
Angel... I don't think she has one... she's not my cat, she's my sisters...
Pokey's is Kisses  (Pokey Kisses Slorstad)

Sasha had her name when we got her, so we kept it, but her nicknames include Sas (Sahss), Sahssy, Tasha, Pickle Sauce (Mom did that, I have no idea), Pickles, Mutt, Muttley, Muttza, SassaMutt

My recently departed lab, Bandit, was registered as "Our Midnight Bandit" because at night he'd steal stuff from all over the house and stash it under the dining table. His nicknames included FritoBandito, Frito, Buddy

My cat, Spaz's nicknames: Spaztastic, Spazza, Spaztica, Demon Childe

Blue the Siamese, so named for his eyes: Boo-Boo, Boo, Booster, Jabba the Hut

CryBaby, the eeriely knowing cat: Baby, Babes

Emily, the male rabbit we rescued thinking it was female (hey, his name was EMILY): Emmet, Em, Bunny, Buns

To pick a couple of my fish, lol:

Mr. Psychedelic, named because of his multitude of irredescent colors on him that change due to angle and lighting, is typically referred to as Psych, but at one point I started calling him Monsieur Psychedelique :)

SoSuMi, was my third betta, at the point where I thought 2 should be the maximum, lol. But he was so cute, and so friendly, that I had to get him. So I copped a bit of an attitude about it and thought, "Yeah, I did get another betta, so sue me." But I generally call him "soo mee" or just "soom."

Oh sure, name a male rabbit with a name that can't be changed if sex turned out different, lol - with my name even! lol!

Yeah, I don't know how old Em was when we rescued "her." He was a class pet in an elementary school science room, a very large rabbit (Holland Lop?) in a proportionately small cage, getting poked at by pencils. So we brought him home, and attempted to let him run the house (my aunt used to have 2 bunnies that were litter trained). We realized he was male when he started spraying everything, and then caught sight of my Siamese and started chasing the cat with rather unhonorable intentions.

But at that point, we'd been calling him Emily for the entire school year, and any efforts to change his name never really stuck.

Later, we talked to the previous owners, and it turns out they KNEW it was a male rabbit. And that's why they donated it to the science room, because of the spraying issue. But they told the teacher its name was Emily, anyway, and so Emily the rabbit he will forever be...

Blitzkrieg was named by my dad and uncle (we sat around for AGES trying to figure out a name, I came up with Vince but it just didn't sit right :-? ), they have a wine club called Blitzkrieg. In German it also means "lightning attack" or "lightning war" and no, we are not a pack of neo-Nazis. :P The name has so far proven to suit him to a T. He gets called a lot of things: Blitz, Blitzy, Blitzen, BK, Bubby, Bubsy, my little boy, fatso (he could lose a couple kgs and he has a big bum!!), and so on...
Rin-Tin-Tin (our old German Shepherd who died earlier this yr) was named of course after the most famous German Shepherd of them all. He also got called a number of names- Rin, Rinny, Rinnypoos, Fluffy, Boofhead, old man, little man, Rinnykins, Rinnybubs...
Lily the kitten was named by my mum. She said Lily if it was a girl, or Lloyd if it was a boy. She gets called princess, queen, lilykins, lilypilly, petal, petal pie, little sook...

Macy (Veneridge Palsan She's Althat): Her call name was Magic when we got her, but that didn't really do it for me. I was looking for something similar to Magic, because I didn't want to confuse her...I considered Maggie but decided that was too common. I was editing the soap-opera column in the newspaper one day and saw the name "Macy" -- DH and I agreed on that, and that's her name now.

Nicknames: Macy May, Macy Marie, Macerino, Little Bit, Honeybug, Baby Girl

Nimo: We had the WORST time coming up with a name for him! Finally, my college roommates and I all put it to a vote, and came up with Geronimo (Nimo for short.)

Nicknames: Neemers, Neenee, Neener Baneener, Mr. Man

Janie: She came with that name. Her foster mom (she was a bottle baby) called her Calamity Jane.

Nicknames: Janie Jean, Janie Jean the Beauty Queen, Jane-Jane, Janiecat

Pawnee: She also came with that name. Her whole litter had Indian names.

Nicknames: Paw, Paw-paw, Pawnee Marie

Paddy was sold and going to Ireland but his new owners changed their mind about him before he left the breeder (he was already called Paddy)

We were agonizing about a name for the puppy before we brought him home - until my mom told us a story about a kitty named felix -- and we thought - wouldn't it be fun to name the puppy Oscar -- odd couple thinking --- and it really just fit!

so now oscar is -- oscarNO, ro, wiggle-butt, puppy-head, bad puppy, and drop it - Drop It -- DROP IT NOW!!

we just got the kitty emmy on saturday, and she was already called emmy ...
