Encyclopedia Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Until recently, no Jindos existed outside of Korea. In Korea's mainland, Jindos interbred with other dogs. But on the island of Jindo, this breed is bred pure. Koreans immigrating to the United States were accompanied by Jindos. The Jindo is prized in America for it's uniqueness and is coated affection. However, in Korea, dogs are still occasionally eaten. This was probably the fate of many of the Jindo's ancestors. This breed is protective of it's family and is aloof. It does retain a strong hunting instinct. Quote
