Guest Anonymous Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 My dog is about 10 months old. She weighs about 45 pounds but is really leggy. She is a little wide in the chest but not alot. And not at all in the head or neck. even though her neck is 1 1/2 in. bigger around than her head. People always ask me if she is full blooded pit. I seen the mother and the father. The father was as wide as they come. Her mom has a good size head and neck. I wanted to know why my dog doesn't. Quote
gooeydog Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Pit bulls are usually close to their full height by the time they are 8-10 moths old, and continue to fill out until they're 18 months old, some a little longer, some less. Contrary to popular belief, pit bulls are not supposed to be "wide", or have huge heads. They are supposed to be quick, strong, and agile... none of which are helped by having a large head or excessive bulk/mass. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Good Point Goo. The APBTs have almost doubled in weight from the standard!! Sizes range from 30lb to 60lb in standards but now they have these huge monsters with giant heads and these huge chests, weighing in at 100lbs or more! The dog of design was fast agile and easy to handle in the pit, do you really think they wanted to wrestle with these hundred pound beasts? if that was the case they wouldnt have breed them down in size in the first place, but that the american way if 50lbs of pitbull is good the 100lbs must be better. We ruin more dogs like that and then when we finally see what we did we spend an eternity trying to correct it. I do not understand BYBs. Quote

Most of the huge pit bulls you see today can barely walk a block in 80 degree weather without their tongues hanging out as they struggle to breathe, let alone work all day long as the breed is supposed to be able to. Guest Anonymous Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Thanks for all of your info. It is appreciated. I was just asking because she is so lanky. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 I'm Guest Pat(who can't log on since she got a new puter - can't remember her old password - got a new one - it's way too long) I may be wrong, and if I am (but I don't think I am), I apologize, but I do believe that Tyler has been here before and on other breed specific boards posting over and over again the same question about how big should my dog be. However, his breed of dog changes with each board. Just a heads up! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 I have been here before but I have asked different ?'s. I haven't been on other boards asking about different breeds of dog. I am only asking these ?'s because my pitbull ash is the first pitbull I have ever owned. I had the idea that all pitbulls had huge heads and chests. But I haven't been on other boards asking the same ? about different breeds. Quote
