deepseasnake Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 hey, everybody this is my girlfriend she will be using my computer under her shar pei's (soon to be :D) name, hi Malina :D (by the way she feels bad  that the title turned out the way it did so lets tell her that it is all ok :) ) Quote
Aroura Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 Aww how sweet? Its ok... dont worry, be happy.... :P LOL I love shar peis too, gorgeous dogs. Just make sure you check out for allergies before you buy one and look at both the parents 8) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002
Does anyone own a Shar Pei?? :D
I hope you have a large budget for vet bills - cute as the breed is its a bundle of inherited defects from most of the breeders out there. Its extremely difficult to get one from lines without any problems in them (I'm not sure its even possible). Shar Pei fever is rampant in most lines for example and allergies are extremely common. I hope you are checking the background of your pup to be for temperament too - some can be quite difficult to handle. As long as you are prepared for what you get you'll be fine but I hope you are prepared - Pei rescue is always doing a booming business because of people getting something they were not expecting! mouseatthebusstop Posted August 11, 2002 Posted August 11, 2002 i have three. the one in the picture is twelve in two weeks. the other two are seven months old. i am not a breeder just a pet owner. i would only get a puppy from a good breeder. she should be available to give advise when you are worried. a puppy who has had shap-pei fevers must never be bred from. good luck  Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 11, 2002 Posted August 11, 2002 OK First I wanna say welcome to this board. I always loved these dogs thought they were so cute. Then I had a bad encounter. I hope your dogs are not like my aunts...... My cousin got a female then they breed her. The family kept all 6 pups. They live next door to my mom. One of the pups, the one my aunt kept as hers, is the meanest little thing ever. He has attacked my moms min-pin 6 times. The first time Duece didn't come home for 2 weeks. They thought he was gonna die. My aunts dog is very teritorial...wrong spelling I know. I hope your dogs arent' anything like my aunts...... They are still beautiful animals, but I wouldn't have one that come from the line my aunts did. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Welcome to the forum!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :P :P :P   Quote
Smooshie Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Hey! welcome to the forum :D I don't have any experience with shar peis (big help I am huh? ) BUT my neighbor has one and it seems like a sweet dog.....tends to be a little dog aggressive though (I don't know if this is typical of the breed??). Maybe it just wasn't socialized properly like Bullboxers' aunt's dog.... So I'm curious....does DSS get his Boxer first ,or do you get your Shar Pei? Or are you getting them at the same time? (picturing a boxer puppy and a shar pei puppy together...AWWWW!) uh oh, I'm feeling a strong urge to go puppy shopping...eeeek! Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 my shar-peis are good with other dogs and chilren. health and good temprement was the most important to me. the breeder socialized them before she sold them to us. i take them out every day they enjoy meeting other people and dogs while we are out.  Quote
sixjollydogs Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I wish you well with your new dog...and urge you to please get it into puppy kindergarten....and then obdience school. Quote
deepseasnake Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 hey six, good to see ya again! FYI I'm gonna get my boxer first most likely because shar peis are so freakin expense (to buy and maintain) just by chance does anyone know anything about ori peis those things look so dang cute! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Do Orie Peis stay pug size there whole life? Does anyone have a picture of a full grown orie pei i could see? Thanks! :D Quote
Aroura Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I don't think Ori Peis are an actual breed, like Bullboxers, etc, so I woudn't go out and waste all that money on a dog that isn't even a pedigree. Breeding dogs like that are just a scam for money and are the result of many puppy mills and people who breed their pedigree to another pedigree because it is not up to standard or comes from a bad or unhealthy line etc. Stick with the shar pei, why would you want anything less anyway? Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 i do not know. is it the minature pei.if so it will grow but not to the full size is that a photo of the pup you are getting jasper    Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Yup thats my baby shar pei! Isn't he cute!! Quote
Smooshie Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 he is SO adorable!!! I saw one in PetSmart today...couldn't have been more than 10 weeks old....looked just like the one in the pic. They aren't as wrinkly when they become adults though are they? Quote
deepseasnake Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 I read up on ori peis a bit and they are recognized by by 2 groups I'm sure you'd all know, but I cant remember them right now, but the site I was reading on talked in great detail about their attempts at AKC rec. so it might be a legit breed in awhile Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Yeah Shar Peis aren't as wrinkly when they get older but, they still are quite wrinkly. Shar Pei puppy's have to be the cutest puppy's i've ever seen! :P Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Opps That last forum was from me. Quote

deepseasnake Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 well its good that you know then, could you give us a website of your friends rescue or email or something. I would like to complete my research on the breed, what ever you can tell me would be helpful (if we could stick to the facts and not get intangled in our conflicting opinions  ) Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted August 24, 2002 Posted August 24, 2002 try www.californiasharpeirescue.com you will find this site helpful    Quote
